[Class 135] [Also in Group XXXIV] A fluid-pressure servomotor is described in connection with operating a brake for automobiles comprises a reservoir 1 in which oil is contained and which is put into circulation by a pump connected to an inlet pipe 18 and outlet pipe 19. The oil under pressure enters a cylinder 6 and operates a piston 9 or not according as the hollow stem 7 of the piston 9 is closed by a valve 14 or not. This valve is opened by a spring 16 and is closed by a pedal 13, or by hand levers or cranks, and the pressure per unit area on the piston is equal to the pressure per unit area on the valve, so that the pressure exerted on the brake is proportional to the pressure exerted by the pedal, and the brake is operated in part by the mechanical pressure. A spring 11 returns the piston to inoperative position when the pedal is released. The pressure on the piston is limited by a relief valve 22 which returns the oil to the reservoir 1 at a predetermined pressure.
