Abstract

543,418. Hydraulic machines. COATALEN, L. Jan. 26, 1939, No. 2703. Convention date, March 26, 1938. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] Pressure liquid for operating hydraulic brakes is obtained from a pump 1 controlled by a distributer 10 controlled by a pedal-operated master cylinder 33, 34. The brake wheels are first brought against the drums by liquid supplied directly by the master cylinder through pipes 50, 12 and a check valve 45. The master cylinder also exerts pressure above a piston 28 in the distributer 10 closing a ball valve 26 and interrupting the normal circulation from the pump through pipes 5, 25 and 2. The pump thereupon also exerts pressure on the brakes through a two-way check valve 18 and the pipe 12. In order that the force to be exerted upon the pedal operating the master-cylinder may be kept small the area of piston 28 is made larger than the area subjected during brake application to the pump pressure which is that of the seating of the ball-valve 26.
