Abstract
793,837. Hydraulic brakes. WAGNER ELECTRIC CORPORATION. March 16, 1956 [March 28, 1955], No. 8277/56. Class 103 (1). A power hydraulic brake system having a fluid reservoir 2, a pump 1 and power hydraulic servo means comprising a piston 41 adapted to be advanced by the pressure created behind it as a consequence of throttling of the fluid flow through the piston head produced by pump 1 by closure of throttling passages 47 on movement of the pedal 36, operates a piston 58 in a master cylinder 57 connected to the wheel cylinders 13, the cylinder 57 having a fluid reservoir 16 separate from the reservoir 2 for the pump system. This is desirable particularly in systems where the same pump 1 also operates a servo-steering unit control valve 7 since mineral oil based pressure fluid is generally used for the power hydraulic system and this would tend to injure the resilient components of the brake system. A counter bore 53 is provided intermediate the power hydraulic and master cylinder pistons, from which pressure fluid leaking from either system may be drained away through a passage 58 and filter 56.
