Abstract

1346187 Servo operated master cylinders V LANGEN [trading as LANGEN & CO] 20 April 1971 [20 April 1970] 10171/71 Heading F2F In an hydraulic servo unit for a dual braking system, leftward movement of a plunger part 17 causes a control edge 38 of a second plunger part 18 connected with lost-motion by means of a rod 20 to part 17, to cover a duct 30 communicating with a reservoir 2 and allowing pressure in a chamber 37 to build up, further movement of plunger 18 resulting in a control edge 39 thereof opening communication between a connection P, leading to an hydraulic pressure source and pressure chamber 37. Pressure in chamber 37 acts on a servo piston 22 causing fluid in a chamber 34 to be transmitted via a connection A and pipe 7 to brake cylinders 8a, 8b and pressure is also transmitted to brake cylinders 11a-11d by way of connection B. If the brake circuit connected to A fails servo piston 22 strikes a stop at the end of a short idle stroke, pressure in chamber 37 being generated by small shifts of plunger 17, 18 and giving a "feel" reaction at the brake pedal. If the circuit connected to B fails a direct mechanical connection between plunger 17, 18 and servo piston 22 is established causing pressurization of the brake cylinders 8a, 8b by way of connection A. The pressure source comprises a pump 1 drawing hydraulic fluid from reservoir 2 and passing it via, check valve 3 to an accumulator 4. If either pump 1 or accumulator 4 fails a check valve 5 prevents sudden pressure loss in chamber 37.
