Abstract
1,244,056. Braking system. MASSEY-FERGUSON SERVICES N.V. 30 May, 1969 [10 June, 1968], No. 27520/69. Headings F2E and F2F. A braking system for a vehicle includes primary powered and secondary mechanical brake actuation means, the connection to the secondary mechanical brake being provided with an automatic wear adjustment means which operates in response to repeated operation of the primary powered brake actuation means. The primary powered brake actuation means 13 acts as for example through a lever 12 and a lever 8 on a tie-rod 6. The tie-rod 6 has a lost-motion connection corresponding to the normal brake clearance. The tie-rod 6 operates a ratchet carrying lever 5 pivoted freely on a shaft 1. The shaft 1 also freely mounts a pedal 3 which carries a pawl 15 co-operating with the ratchet 7, the ratchet 7 and pawl 15 forming the wear adjustment means. The pawl 15 may be retracted from the ratchet 7 by a movement of a rod 17 against spring loading and the system may be held in a brake-on condition by the co-operation of a further pawl 22 with a rod 21 which is pivotally connected to the pedal 3. Two such connections may be provided one at each side of the pedal 3, each to actuate a brake.
