Abstract

1,226,439. Emergency brakes for hoists. A.C.E. MACHINERY Ltd. 25 Nov., 1969 [9 Dec., 1968], No. 58407/68. Heading B8L. In an emergency brake mechanism for use in the cage of a hoist, brake members 1, Figs. 1, 2, which are biased into operative position by a spring 9, are linked by disc-springs 24 to ensure gradual application of the brake members to a guide 25. The brake members 1 are held by wedge-shaped support members 3 and pivoted brackets 4 between which the springs 24 are located. The brakes are applied by a speed governor which turns a lever 15 about a pivot 16 so that the spring 9 is enabled to push a toggle linkage 11, 12 away from a stop 14.
