Abstract

1,068,212. Hoist safety devices. A. C. E. MACHINERY Ltd. Sept. 16, 1965 [Oct. 1, 1964], No. 39971/64. Heading B8L. A hoist safety device comprises a pair of brake shoes 6, 7 mounted on a plate 3 and adapted to be moved into gripping engagement with a stationary guide rope, against the action of springs 8, 9, by rotatable cams 10, 11. The plate 3 is movable on guides 18 on the hoist platform and is normally held at the lower end of the guides, against the action of springs 20 by one end of a lever (21), Figs. 1, 3 (not shown), pivotally mounted on the hoist platform, the other end of the lever normally being held in a raised position by a trip device. When the lever (21) is released by the trip device, which may be actuated manually or automatically on overspeeding or reduction of hoist rope tension, the springs 20 move the plate 3 up the guides 18 thereby, through links 14, 15 and arms 12, 13 secured to the cams, rotating the cams 10, 11 to move the brake shoes into gripping engagement with the guide rope.
