Abstract
703,157. Builders' hoists ;catch gear; end stop gear. BUCKLE, H. Feb. 13, 1951 [Feb. 15, 1950], No. 3908/50. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (5) A winch driven builders' hoist has a ratchet catch device normally held out of operation by the tension in the hoisting rope, and clutch operating means, located in the path of the platform, which serves automatically to disconnect the winch drum from its driving unit at the extreme positions of the platform. A platform 21 has pairs of flanged wheels 22, 23 respectively engaging the front and rear faces of a pair of guide members 18 on a mast 19, the flanges of the wheels being disposed respectively on the outer and inner edges of the guide members to provide lateral stability. The platform is raised by a winch 14 and a cable 28 which passes over pulleys 34, 33 and is anchored at 30 to a pawl 26 pivoted to the platform at 27. Normally this pawl is held away from a ratchet bar 25 by the tension in the cable, but, in the event of the cable breaking or running slack, springs 31 effect engagement of the ratchet and pawl so checking the fall of the platform. The winch is manually controlled by a hand brake (not shown) and a lever 37 which, when in the neutral position shown in Fig. 5, disconnects the drive to the winch, but which, when moved to pivot levers 38, 41 clockwise or anti-clockwise, effects raising or lowering movement of the winch. Should the lever 37 be still in one of its extreme positions when the platform reaches one of its end positions, the lever 37 is automatically returned to its neutral position by one of cables 39, 42 which are actuated by levers 40, 43 pivoted in the path of the platform. The hoist is mounted on retractable wheels 50 and, for transit, the guide mast may be pivoted downwardly about an axis 11 ; to facilitate this, a brace arm 44 is detached from a clamp 46 and is allowed to ride out on its wheel 48 so steadying the mast as it is lowered by cable and drum (not shown). Specification 703, 156, [Group XX'IV], is referred to.
