Abstract

1,047,977. Gate lock mechanisms for builders' hoists. A.C.E. MACHINERY Ltd. Aug. 18, 1965 [Sept. 1, 1964], No. 35715/64. Headings B8H and B8L. A gate lock mechanism on the cage of a builders' hoist is adapted to be freed by rotation of a hand lever 7 which, through links 8, 11 and bellcrank levers 9, 12, projects a roller 13 into the plane of ramps located in the hoist shaft, one at each landing. On engagement of the roller with a ramp, further rotation of the hand lever 7 causes a lever 10, pivoted to the lever 9, to rotate a shaft carrying a bevel gear 15 thereby, through a bevel gear 16, a lever 17 and link, pivoting bell-crank levers 5, 6 upwardly to disengage a lock bar 4 from a beak 3 on the sliding gate 2. When the roller 13 is not adjacent a ramp, rotation of the lever 7, the lever 9 rotates about its pivotal connection with the lever 10 which remains in the position shown. Surplus hoisting rope, which may be paid out as the hoist tower is extended, is stored on four spools 21, Fig. 3 (not shown), rotatably mounted on the tower 32. From these spools the rope 22 passes over a guide drum 23 in the head gear 33 to a wedge-type clamp 24. The rope then passes over the counterweight pulley 25, an idler pulley 27, a driving sheave 28, idler pulleys 29 and a pulley 30 supporting the cage 1 to the anchorage 31 in the head gear. An under rope 34 extends between the cage 1 and a spool 35 on the counterweight. The tower is provided with a flanged base 36, Fig. 4 (not shown), engageable by separate clamps 37 disposed around the base and fixed to the tower foundations by bolts 38.
