Abstract

1,172,880. Emergency slip gear for winches. MARTIN HOIST & ENG. CO. Ltd. 19 June, 1968 [30 June, 1967], No. 30410/67. Heading B8B. [Also in Division F2] A trip mechanism to limit speed of rotation of a member 10, Fig. 1, e.g. the cable drum of a winch, or mobile hoist, comprises a lever 13 pivotally mounted eccentrically of the member and maintained, e.g. by a spring 16, in an inoperative position while the speed of the member is below a predetermined maximum. When this speed is exceeded, the centrifugal force on the lever causes it to pivot to a position in which a stop 18 on it abuts against a peripheral flange 19 on an end plate of the member and in which its nose 14 contacts a pivotally mounted otherwise stationary lever 20 coupled to a brake or clutch (not shown). The lever 13 may be mounted as described in Specification 905,928; and the fixed end of the spring may be located at any one of a number of positions 17, to vary the restraining force of the spring.
