Abstract

948,592. Winches. LICO A.G. Aug. 13, 1962 [Aug. 11, 1961], No. 31005/62. Heading B8B. [Also in Division F2] A winch drum 8 is urged axially against a disc brake 10 by a spring 15 and is released therefrom during driving or pay-out by a cam mechanism 21, 22 associated with the drive shaft 23. The drum 8 is freely rotatably and axially mounted on an end cap 4 keyed and bolted at 5, 6 to the drive shaft 23. During driving a wedge-faced clutch member 21 on the cap 4 engages a corresponding member 22 on the drum to urge the drum 8 axially away from the brake disc 10. The spring 15 is retained by an end-plate 12 which is axially adjustable by bolts 13 in the end cap 4 for varying the pressure on the brake.
