Abstract

1,123,443. Motor driven hoists. GARDNERDENVER CO. 13 April, 1966 [10 May, 1965], No. 16190/66. Heading B8B. A rotary hoist comprises a housing 14 having a cavity 36 with a fluid or electric revercible motor 48 disposed therein, a winding reel 78, 80 for a loading cable 22, and brake means 86, 88 disposed in the cavity 36 adjacent the motor 48. The brake means comprises a brake drum 86 journalled at 96 to the flange 38 of casing 14 and a brake band 88 mounted on the flange 38 and spring biased into engagement with the drum 86. The splined end 76 of a shaft 74 engages the motor 48 and the brake drum 86, and is movable rotationally therewith, but axially movable relative thereto. The shaft 74 drives gearing in casing 12 which further drives the reel. In the case of a fluid motor 48, a piston and cylinder arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), is actuated to release the brake band 88 simultaneously with the operation of the motor. In the case of an electric motor a solenoid releases the brake band 88 when the motor is energized.
