In a mine winder of the friction drum type in which a position indicator shaft 1, Fig. 1, driven from a main shaft 2, has a correction for rope slip provided by a differential gear 6, provision for manual correction is incorporated in the drive for the differential gear. A handle 11 is fitted on one end of the shaft carrying the worm-wheel 7 through which the differential gear is normally driven from a motor 8. A clutch 9 with manual control 10 is provided for disconnecting the motor drive. Specification 783,298 is referred to.
