Abstract

871,073. Winches. AIR-EQUIPEMENT. Oct. 7, 1957 [Oct. 9, 1956], No. 31261/57. Class 78 (5). Winch pulley 60 drives rollers 75, 76 through gearing 82, 80, 81, 83, 84 and 85 so that, when the motor drives the pulley to wind off the cable, the rollers 75, 76 positively feed it downwards. Roller 76 is pivoted at 78 and biased by spring 79 so that the two rollers grip the cable between them. When the cable is wound up on to the pulley, the two rollers maintain tight the cable by friction but do not rotate, this being effected by freewheel clutch 86-86<SP>1</SP> and holding ratchet-and-pawl 87-87<SP>1</SP>, the former breaking the drive from the pulley to the rollers and the latter preventing the movement of the cable from rotating the rollers. In this way, control of the cable on and off the pulley is maintained.
