Abstract
1,110,260. Continuous winding. GEOFFROY-DELORE and GODDERIDGE & CIE. 20 Dec., 1965 [21 Dec., 1964], No. 53972/65. Heading D1J. The take-up reels 1a, 1b are co-axial. The reel that is being used to wind up wire is driven by a main motor 12, clutch 13, gear box 11, main shaft 9 and appropriate clutch and transmission members (i.e. 10a, 7a, 8a, 6a or 10b, 7b, 8b, 6b). The reel that is not being used is brought up to speed by means of an auxiliary drive shaft 15 and appropriate clutch and transmission members (i.e. 17a, 18a, 19a, 20a or 17b, 18b, 19b, 20b). When the empty reel is running at the appropriate takeup speed, the wire is transferred to it from the full reel, the clutches on the main shaft 9 being operated to disengage it from the full reel and engage it with the reel on which winding has commenced. The drive from the auxiliary shaft 15 is then disconnected. Brakes 3a, 3b are associated with the transmission members 7a, 7b. In Fig. 1 the auxiliary shaft 15 is driven from an auxiliary motor 14 via gearing 16. In Fig. 6 (not shown) the auxiliary shaft 15 is driven from the main shaft 9 via a clutch (24). In Fig. 2 (not shown) the brakes 3a, 3b are replaced by clutches freely mounted on the main shaft 9, these clutches being driven by the pulleys 18a, 18b of Fig. 1 that are now rigid with the auxiliary shaft 15. The clutches 17a, 17b are absent and the brakes 3a, 3b are re-positioned to co-act with the pulleys on the shafts 2a, 2b.
