Abstract

419,351. Fittings for loading and unloading vehicles. SHELVOKE & DREWRY, Ltd., and DREWRY, J. S., Icknield Way, Letchworth, Hertfordshire. June 29, 1934, No. 19269. [Class 78 (iv).] In a vehicle fitted with a movable floor comprising a belt or band 2 wound on a roller 5 and unwound by a cable or cables 9 and winding shaft 11, the winding shaft is operatively connected with the roller, and a fusee drum is provided to compensate for the varying effective radius of the roller during winding and unwinding of the band. As shown, the cables 9 are wound on fusee drums 10 on the shaft 11 which is connected with the roller by cables 17 wound on drums 12, 13 of uniform diameter and by spur gearing. The band 2 is secured to a metal plate 6 carrying pivoted bell-crank levers 7, 8 connected to the cables 9 and to springs 18 which take up slack in the cables. When the cables 9 are tensioned by the winding gear, the movement of the bellcrank levers is limited by stop members 19, 21. The drums 13 drive the shaft 14 through dogs 23 on the shaft as shown in Fig. 3, and springs 24 take up slack in the cables 17 at other times. There may be two or more bands 2 side by side. The fusee drum may form part of the driving connection between the shaft 11 and the roller 5.
