Abstract

789,006. Winches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Nov. 18, 1955 [Nov. 19, 1954], No. 33570/54. Class 78 (5). A mine winder comprises the winding drum 10 and driving motor 15 arranged coaxially and coupled by epicyclic gear 29. Thus, motorshaft 17 drives drum-shaft 11 of frictionwinding drum 10 through flexible coupling 19, sun gear 20 and planet gears 21, the latter being carried by carrier 23 bolted to shaft 11. The ring gears 24, 25 of the epicyclic system are flexibly coupled to inching motor 33 through toothed rings 26A, 26B, 27, the ring 27 being rotatably supported by grooved guide member 28 and drivably connected by its teeth 27B and flexibly-mounted worm 31 to said inching motor. Brakes 34, 35 are supplied so that, when brake 34 operates, driving motor 15 drives the drum 10 and, when brake 35 operates, inching motor 33 inches the said drum.
