Abstract
1,021,583. Winches. T. WATT. Nov. 18, 1963, No. 45388/63. Heading B8B. [Also in Division F2] A two-speed gear for a hoist or winch comprises an input shaft 20 fast with the input hub 23 of a double friction clutch 24 which selectively connects the shaft 20 through a lowspeed gear train 37 ... 40 or a high-speed gear train 46 ... 48 to an output drum 13. The gear trains may as shown be spur gear trains or may be chain and sprocket trains. The shaft 20 is driven from an electric motor 15 through gears 18, 19. The output pinion 48 of the high speed train is fast with the drum 13 whilst the output pinion 40 of the low speed train drives the drum 13 through a ratchet clutch 42, 43. Two drums 13, 14 may be driven from a single motor 15 through identical two-speed gears by connecting their input shafts 20, 70. In Fig. 6 (not shown) a pulley is secured to the end of the shaft 70 remote from the shaft 20.
