Winch drum 15 is driven by diesel engine 3 via hydraulic or electric torque converter 4, chain 7, shaft 6, shaft 12 and gearing 13, 14. The drive from shaft 6 to shaft 12 is through either gearing 8, 10, 11 or gearing 9, 17, under the control of clutches 50 so that either gear 11 or gear 17 can be clutched to shaft 12 to allow the drum to be reversed.
