Abstract

865,058. Ships' winches. DREHMASCHINENWERK LEIPZIG VEB. Feb. 11, 1958 [Oct. 23, 1957], No. 4357/58. Class 78 (5). Winch drum 1 is for raising a load such as a seaplane off the water whilst avoiding slack in the winch cable and is accordingly driven for hoisting by an hydraulic motor 5 through gearing 6, disengageable clutch 4 and over-running clutch 7, whilst it is driven by smaller hydraulic motor 2 through gearing 3 to maintain the cable in tension when the level of water changes. Handle 16 controls valve 18 controlling motor 2 whilst handle 17 controls valve 19 controlling motor 5, the handles simultaneously controlling pump 11 through respective cables 14, 15 and common lever 13. Included in the circuit is motor 8 driving pulley 10 over which the winch cable passes for assisting the run-out of the cable.
