Abstract

824,178. Guiding rope on to winch drums. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. March 18, 1957 [March 17, 1956], No. 8419/56. Class 78 (5). Cable 4 is guided on to winch drum 1 by means of vertical rollers 6, grooved horizontal rollers 8, 9 and barrel-shaped roller 5, roller 9 being mounted in slots 11 so that when the rope slackens suddenly leftwards movement of roller 9 jams the cable against roller 8 and keeps taut the cable windings on the drum. The drum may be mounted on a vehicle and driven by the engine thereof through clutch 12 controlled by hand lever 13 (not shown).
