In a cableway winch in which the cable 2, Fig. 1, passes a number of times over a driving pulley 1 and tension roller 1<SP>1</SP>, one or more pressure rollers 5 engage the cable against the driving pulley 1 so that the tension in the cable is independent of the tension in the idle run of the cable. The rollers 5 are arranged on lever arms 3 with adjustable tension springs 7. A single roller 5 may engage the intermediate region of the pulley 1 or a pair of rollers 5 may be arranged to engage the cable at each end of the pulley 1.
