Abstract

1,035,652. Winches. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. March 29, 1963 [Jan. 4, 1962; July 24, 1962], Nos. 435/62 and 28436/62. Heading B8B. In a haulage system in which a rope R, Fig. 4, stretched between two fixed points is lapped around a winch drum 40, Fig. 1 (not shown), on the machine to be hauled, the rope R is guided to and from the drum over a double V-groove pulley 61 against which it is yieldingly pressed and which is adapted to cause the slack outgoing rope to run faster than the ingoing rope so that the rope is held under tension around the drum 40. The double V-grooves of the pulley 61 are formed on the inner faces by a central cylindrical member 63 which is axially slidable on a central hub 60 under tension of the rope R so that the outgoing slack portion is forced radially outwardly in its groove. Grooved rollers 74, 76 pressing the rope R into the grooves are yieldingly mounted in pairs on adjustable leaf springs 64. Additional rollers 52, 53, Fig. 1 (not shown), for pressing the rope into engagement with the drum to provide a starting tension are mounted on bell cranks and yieldingly urged against the drum by a compression spring. In a modification a rope 107, Fig. 6 (not shown), is guided to and from a haulage drum 105 over a pair of double V-groove pulleys 116, 117 symmetrically mounted on each side of the drum 105. Pairs of grooved rollers 143 for pressing the rope 107 against the pulleys 116, 117 mounted at opposite ends of two-armed levers 134 having central pivots 136 yieldingly mounted on leaf springs 131.
