Abstract

1485302 Multiple drum winches FRIEDRICH KOCKS GmbH 23 Aug 1974 [25 Aug 1973] 37282/74 Heading B8B [Also in Division F2] A winch device, suitable for use in warping and mooring of ships, comprises a pair of drums 11, 12 each having grooves 13 about which a rope 14 is wound in a figure eight path, the end 14a being the rope's load end which is located on the load side (S1) of the winch device and the rope 14 leaves the drum 11 at a region 14b which is distal with respect to the load side (S1) of the winch device and is guided downwardly to a rope stowing device in the form of a basket (16), Fig. 2 (not shown). In use of the winch device a pull is exerted on the part of the rope 14 which is distal from the load side (S1) by the fact that the respective end grooves 13a, 13b of the drums 11, 12 are formed with two circumferential parallel rows of protuberances 18, 19, Fig. 4, which engage rope 14 to ensure good contact between the rope and grooves 13a, 13b, a thrust roller 25 being provided to further enhance the engagement between rope 14 and groove 13a. The drive shaft 26 of the drum 11 is driven by a motor (not shown), the drive being transmitted to the drum 12 by the engagement of friction wheels 28, 30 on drum 11 with respective friction wheels 29, 31 of drum 12. The friction wheels 29, 31 are pressed into engagement with the friction wheels 28, 30 by means of a spring 35 which presses a guide member (34) leftwardly in the Figures, the member (34) being rigidly connected with the shaft (38) of the drum 12, Fig. 5 (not shown).
