Abstract

1,230,423. Guided platform elevators; winches; pulley arrangements. ALASKA ELEVATOR CORP. 9 Sept., 1968 [11 Sept., 1967], No. 42849/68. Headings B8B and B8H. An elevator assembly for an offshore marine apparatus having a fixed platform 12 at the top of a support column 11, comprises a lower platform 13 surrounding the column 11 and movable up and down the column by winch driven cables 24, 25, the platform 13 being guided in its movement by resilient rollers mounted on the platform 13 and engaging the column. The platform 13 is suspended by two pairs of cables 25a, 25b on opposite sides of the column 11, the ends of the cables not, anchored at 38, 44 to the fixed platform 12, passing around idler rollers 36, 37, 42, 43, on the platform 13 and passing up through slots 29 in the platform 12 to be wound on respective winch drums. Idler pulleys for the cables above each slot 29 are slidable on axles parallel to the slot to facilitate layered winding of the pair of cables side by side on the winch drum, both winch drums being mounted on the same drive shaft which has a speed governing brake.
