Abstract

711,973. Wind reverse drive. PRIESTMAN BROS., Ltd. Sept. 5, 1952 [Sept. 7, 1951], No. 21180/51. Class 78 (5) A winch in which the drum is normally driven forwards by direct gearing from a driving shaft 7, has a reversing drive which comprises a gear train having a reversing gear wheel 16 on the driving shaft and an idler gear 17 jourmalled in a cage 18, said cage being movable to bring the reversing gear wheel into mesh with a second gear wheel 14 which drives the winch. As shown. Fig. 1, hoisting drums 1 and holding drums 2 are mounted freely on their shafts 3, 4 and are forwardly driven from pinion 6 fixed on driving shaft 7 respectively through pinion 5 fixed on shaft 3 and one way friction clutch 9 operated by relay brake 9A, and through a similar pinion arrangement 8, 10, 10A. The drums are reversedly driven, Fig. 2, from said gear wheel 16 by said idler gear 17 which swings about pivot 20 to mesh with gear 14, the gear 14 being clutched to drum 1 through clutch 15 and driving drum 2 through gear 13 and clutch 110. The clutches used may be of the type disclosed in Specification 264,327, [Class 80 (ii)].
