Abstract

428,913. Winches. AKTIEBOLAGET ALCUS, 45, Regeringsgatan, Stockholm. Oct. 23, 1934, No. 30411. Convention date, Oct. 25, 1933. [Class 78 (v)] A winch for loading ships comprises a single non-reversible driving motor 24, separate reversible motion transmitting means contained in housings 13 and including a braking mechanism operative for driving the drums 8 independently of each other in the same direction, or in opposite directions, or for driving one drum in either direction while the other is stationary, and operating members 22, 23 for each transmission mechanism so arranged that they can be actuated by one man. Each end of the motor shaft is secured to a shaft 40 on which are mounted disc clutches 20, 21 controlled by the movement of the arms 22, 23. The outer clutch sleeves are connected by bevel gears 17, 18 to a gear 19 on a shaft 54 which can be coupled to the worm shaft 58 either directly through coupling members 63, 64 when a gear 15 is displaced, or through the train of gears 59, 60, 62, 15. Each shaft 58 engages a worm wheel on one of the drum shafts 35, 36.
