Abstract

694,210. Pulley hoists. SPRINGATE, Ltd., A. E. Jan. 21, 1952. [Jan. 22, 1951] No. 1651/51. Classes 78 (iv) and 78 (v). Gearing for driving a winch 1 comprises a friction driving member 6a mounted on the shaft of a motor 8 carried by a platform 5a which can be raised to engage the member with friction wheels 3b, 4b, Fig. 1, on shafts 3, 4 carrying gears 3a, 4a in mesh with a gear 1b attached to the drum. A bracket 5 mounted on the platform carries a double-sided brake shoe 7 which contacts the wheels 8b, 4b as the element 6a is disengaged from them. The platform is raised by a hand operated lever 9 which is in the path of the load supporting block 10. If the load is raised too high, the block raises the lever to interrupt the drive and apply the brake. The end 12e of a lever 12 which is attached to the free end 11b of the load rope 11, bears on the brake shoe and ensures that the braking force is proportional to the load. The drum is supported by members 2a depending from U-shaped brackets 2b. These brackets carry rollers 14 which run on a beam 13 and are driven through worm gearing by shafts] 16a. The ends of these shafts are connected by universal joints to shafts 16f which are themselves connected bv similar joints to short shafts 16e. These shafts are mounted in a structure 17 which is pivoted in a U-shaped bracket 5g mounted on the platform 5a. Friction discs 15f, 16f on the shafts can be tilted by pulling cords 17c to bring one of them into engagement with a friction pulley 6b on the motor shaft.
