Abstract
971,333. Capstans; epicyclic winch-drives. INSTITUT FUR SCHIFFBAU. Nov. 28, 1960, No. 40804/60. Heading B8B. A capstan 9 is driven by an electric motor (not shown) connected to a shaft 1 which carries at its upper extremity the sun-wheel 5 of an epicyclic gear. The planet carrier 6 of the latter is in toothed engagement at 10 with a member 11 rigid with the sun-wheel 11a of a second epicyclic gear. The planet carrier of the second gear is rigid with the frame 15 of the capstan, and the outer ring gear 19 of the second gear is in toothed engagement at 20, 23 with a plate, 21 which is rigid with the drum 11.
