Abstract

Class 80(2) [Also in Groups I and XXXIV] When brake bands 42 are applied by a handle 44 Fig. 6, to the annulus 41 of an epicyclic gear 25, 26, 28, drive is transmitted from a rotating shaft 20 to a driven shaft 33, Fig. 5. geared (55, 56) to a screw 40 for moving the trays of a filter press. The brake bands are pivoted at 43, and their engaging pressure (and thus the movement of the press trays) is controlled by the degree of rotation of cams 46 on the shaft 45 of the handle 44, the cams cooperating with rollers 47 on the free ends of the bands. Further cams 51 may be provided on the shaft 45 to operate spring- loaded contacts 53 so as to run the motor 22 (driving the shaft 20) only when the brake is applied. To provide a further gear-reduction the driven shaft 33 may be secured to the planet carrier 64, Fig. 8, of a second epicyclic gear rotating in a fixed ring 63a and in series with the first.
