Abstract

1473872 Tufting machines CARD & CO INC 24 June 1974 [23 July 1973] 27880/74 Heading DIG A tufting machine has yarn feeds 17 each comprising two rollers 33 34 coupled by gears 39, 40 and driven through one of three clutches to give a choice of three drive speeds. Two clutches 35 and 36 are mounted coaxially with the feed rollers on shafts 43 and 44 respectively (Fig. 5) and the third is mounted on a third shaft 38. These shafts are chain driven from three drive shafts 20, 21 and 22 in the main frame, which in turn are chain driven through a gear box 85 from the main shaft 15. The clutches (Fig. 7, not shown) are electromagnetic and selected by the switch box 81 which is controlled by the pattern control mechanism 82. The rollers, clutches and sprockets 50, 55 and 60 are all mounted on a module 30 which can be removed easily from the main housing for repair.
