Abstract

1452501 Knitting machines H YORK B YOUNG and A WALLACE 17 Sept 1974 [2 Nov 1973 11 April 1974] 51057/73 and 16367/74 Heading D1C In a multi-feed circular knitting machine for producing high pile fabric common drive means for card units 11, 30 are driven from the main machine drive and are accommodated in a part 10, 29 of a structure 8, 27, such part 10, 29 being spaced above the needle cylinder 2, 23 so as to afford greater access to the needles and cam box. In the Fig. 1 embodiment the structure 8 comprises a box-section component 10 supported by columns 9 and the card units 11 are driven through respective pinions 16 from a top ring gear 17, 18 driven in turn through a shaft 20 in one 'of the columns from a main ring gear 5. The units 11 are themselves supported on the component 10. In Fig. 2, the units 30 are supported on brackets B secured to the columns 28. As well as card wheels 40, 41 pairs of intermeshed fluted feed rollers are also provided driven at progressively higher speeds by drives 47, 48, 49. In a third embodiment the card units are mounted on posts set in the base plate of the machine.
