Abstract

1,179,554. Kniffing-machines. BENTLEY ENG. CO. Ltd. 26 April, 1967 [30 April, 1966], No. 19093/66. Heading D1C. In a circular knitting machine fabric take up is carried out by a series of wheels 18 arranged around the inside of the needle cylinder which are rotated by a worm 38 in such a way that fabric is drawn inwardly away from the needles. The wheels are vertically adjustable and are spring loaded downwards. In the case of a stationary cylinder machine the worm 38 is driven from the rotating cam boxes and in the case of a rotating cylinder machine the worm is stationary. During reciprocatory knitting the wheels are rotated only when the cylinder moves in the direction of normal rotary knitting, the drive to the worm being provided through a ample ratchet mechanism, so than an even tension is maintained.
