Abstract

1,008,588. Knitting machines. BENJAMIN RUSSELL & SONS Ltd. Feb. 24,1964 [Nov. 28, 1962], No. 44926/62. Heading D1C. A circular links-links knitting machine has its upper cylinder continuously driven from the lower cylinder and shogged to predetermined angular extents for the production of cabled effects in the fabric. The upper cylinder is driven from the lower cylinder through a gear train 11, 13, 23 a shaft 25 and a further gear train 22, 14, 12. The gear wheel 22 is mounted on a gear carrier 20 rotatably mounted on the shaft 16 of pinion 14 in order that the gear wheel 22 can rotate relative to shaft 16 and hence produce a relative shogging between the two cylinders, the movement being permitted by universal joints 26, 27 on the shaft 25. The mechanism for shogging the upper needle cylinder and securing it in the shogged position is illustrated in Fig. 3 (not shown). The sliders which control the needles are provided with long, medium or short butts and the long lentted sliders are actuated by radially movable and adjustable cams which operate to select the needles which are to be transferred for the production of cables.
