530,943. Knitting. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc. July 7, 1939, No. 19787. Convention date, July 9, 1938. [Class 74 (ii)] Relates to a machine for knitting a fabric such as shown in Fig. 4 around a conducting core, the courses being more or less parallel to the core. Latch needles 16 having inwardly projecting toothed butts 21 are mounted in a rotatable cylinder 14 and are actuated by one or more cam rings 22 which rotate with the cylinder and are inclined so as to impart a simple harmonic motion to the needles. In order to avoid lateral pressure on the butts 21 the needle cams are arranged to be stationary, relative to the needles, and they are actuated by other cams 32, 33 mounted on a rotary shaft 25. The needles are held in the cylinder 14 by an outer sleeve 17, secured in position by means of a set-screw, by loosening which the sleeve can be rotated on the cylinder until a vertical slot in the sleeve coincides in position with any needle that is to be removed or replaced. The cylinder head 18 is adjustable up and down with respect to the cylinder 14 by means of lock nuts 20 to regulate the length of loop.
