Abstract

10,835. Mellor & Sons, M., and Mills, J. A. May 8. Circular machines.-Relates to a swing stitch cam 6 for use in reciprocating knitting on hosiery machines with rotary or fixed cam cylinders. The construction also permits a ready removal of the needle cylinder. The cam 6 is carried on an axle 7 fitted to turn and slide in a bracket 8 and provided with a lever 9, which, by means of a pin 25 making contact with cams 24, provides for the reversal of the cam 6 before each reciprocation. The cam 6 is withdrawn during each reversal to allow for the curvature of the needle-cylinder, by the interaction of a cam 10 on the lever 9 and a cam 11 on a sleeve 12. The sleeve 12 is fitted to slide on the boss 13 of the bracket 8, and is thrust outwards, prior to reciprocal knitting, to withdraw the cam 6 from the long-butted instep needles, which are left in the clearing position, by the rotation of a ring 19 carrying cam surfaces 20 acting on the cam slots 17 of a flange 16. This rotation is effected by a cam 26 acting on a pin 22 of the ring 19. The cams 24, 26 are controlled by pattern mecharism.
