Abstract

1,215,448. Knitting-machines. BENTLEY ENG. CO. Ltd. 5 Jan., 1968 [13 Jan., 1967], No. 1918/67. Heading D1C. A fabric take-down device for a circular machine comprises a series of instruments 13 cooperating with the needles and moving in a closed path to engage the fabric and draw it inwardly from the needles. In one embodiment, for a double cylinder machine, the instruments are positioned in tricks in a ring 10 secured to the upper cylinder. At each stitch forming zone the instruments are raised, then lowered to re-engage the fabric by cams 14, 15, and as loops are cast off are urged inwards against cam 16 by coil spring 21. In rib machines the needle cylinder may be tricked internally to carry verge bits which engage a track in the ring 10, which is axially movable to displace the verge bits en bloc. Alternatively the instruments and bits may be mounted behind or adjacent one another in common tricks. In a single cylinder machine the instruments are mounted in a ring above the cylinder.
