Abstract
1,139,059. Knitting-machines. SINGER CO. 6 Dec., 1966 [8 Dec.; 1965], No. 54453/66. Heading D1C. Needle selection is achieved in a circular multifeed machine to produce patterning, such as tucking, or for welting by the provision at each feed of pivoted cams 50, 98 which can be raised or lowered to guide the butts of the short and long needles into a knitting, tucking or welting position. With the cams raised the butts engage them such that the needles are raised and subsequently lowered under stitch cams 68,118. When the cams are in a tucking position they each co-operate with a second pivoted spring biassed cam 70, 116 to guide the needles at a lower height. When the cams 50, 98 are lowered to welt height their end projection 51, 108 engages the cam 70, 116 and against the bias of the spring moves both cams to a low position. The arrangement is such that positions 52, 104, 54, and 110 as well as the other co-operating cams provide guiding channels for the needle butts throughout the majority of their passage through the cams. In addition the stitch cams and cams 70, 116 are mounted on a slidable part capable of vertical adjustment to enable the stitch length to be varied or adjusted.
