Abstract

A single-cylinder circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery and the like goods in mostly plain and tuck structure is provided with a cam system controlling the needles and needle jacks in which all cams 8, 9, 12 to 16 of the cam system designed to raise needles and needle jacks are arranged swingably to be disposed selectively in lowered, tuck and clearing positions. A needle lowering cam 6 and jack lowering cam rings 17, 18 are also provided. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Single-cylinder circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery and the like goods The present invention reiates to a single-cylinder circular knitting machineforthe production af hosiery and the iike goods in a rotary run of the needle cylinder in especially plain and tuck structures, a cam system controlling the needles and needle jacks.
Circular knitting machinesforthe production of hosiery goods are known, where the needles are controlled either directly by needle cams or by needle jacks or by a combination of said controls in dependence ofthe butts set-out. The cams are designed to be radially shiftableto individual heights ofthe butts. The machines are provided with a set of cams to control the jacks, the cams being arranged always only in one knitting system. The machines being so equipped require very precise shifting of the cams with regard to circumferential set-out ofthe butts and to the height of the butts. Further the selection ofthe needles between the knitting feeds, or the possibility of selection in individual knitting feeds are given by the combination of used control cams.To control needles there are provided stationary tuck cams and shiftable cams for clearing or both cams are shiftable or in combination shiftable and swingable cams. To control the jacks there are provided fixedly adjusted raising cams or sets of cams orswingable cams.
The above mentioned designs do not permit arbitary change of the possibility of selection in individual knitting feeds considerable intervention into the operation of the cams or set-out ofthe butt lengths and moreover shiftable cams limitthe revolutions during the change in the machine.
It is an object ofthe present invention to obviate or mitigate the above mentioned disadvantages.
According to the present invention there is provided a single-cylinder circular knitting machineforthe production of hosiery and the like goods by the rotary run of a needle cylinder, in particular plain and tuck structures, with a cam system controlling the needles and needle jacks, wherein the cams ofthe cam system to raise needles and needlejacks are swingable into lowered, tuck and clearing positions.
The advanatage of the present invention consists in that in each knitting feed the needle selection can be performed equivalently with proper cooperation of the cams and butts set-outwithout increasing the length ofthe needle cylinder, or ofthe needle jack and furtherinimprovingthereliabilityoftheselection which manifests itself by increased revolutions in the changes.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein: Fig. lisa partial axial section of a needle cylinder of a single-cylinder knitting machine showing the needles and needle jacks and associated cams; Fig. 2 is the arrangement of the cams to control the needles and needle jacks for one knitting feed of the machine.
Referring to the drawings, a single-cylinder circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery and the like goods is provided with a needle cylinder 1, in the longitudinal tricks of which there are located needles 2 and undersaid needles there are needle jacks 3.
Knock-over sinkers 4 located in a sinker ring 5 cooperate with needles 2 when forming the stitches.
All knitting feeds, or the cams thereof are the same and therefore forthe sake of explanation the cam means of one knitting feed are illustrated.
Clearing cam 6 and needle try 7 serve to clear needles 2. Behind said cams6 or7 in the direction of rotation there is a swingable cam 8 arranged in the track of butts 2a of needles 2, said cam 8 cooperating with short butts 2a of needles 2 and beside itthere is a swingable cam 9 cooperating with long buts 2a of needles 2. Both swingable cams 8,9 are movable into a lowered position, when they do not raise needles 2, or into a tuck position, or into a clearing position of needles 2 and cam 9 into a reinforcing position. Cams 10 and 11 serve to lower the needles.
Under movable cams 8,9 in the track of butts A, B, C, D, E of needle jacks3thereare arrangedswingable cams 12,13,14,1S,16which can be moved into a lowered position in which they do not raise needle jacks 3 or into a tuck position or a clearing position when they raised the needle jacks 3 and thus the needles 2 into tuck or clearing positions. All said swingable cams are provided with raising edges ofthe same shape and thus they can be used equivalently at all revolutions ofthe machine. These are the courses of swingablecams12 upto 16from pointX,as marked onswingablecam 13, which corresponds to the beginning of the raising edge of swingable cam 8.
Further, there are arranged an uppercam ring 17 which serves to lower the needlejacks 3 by means of buttsA,andalowercam ring 18 located between swingablecams 15and 16which also, exceptfor radial guiding, can serve to lowerthe needle jacks 3 by means oftheir butts E. The butts A and E ofthe needle jacks 3 perform therefore two functions.
The butts A of needle jacks 3 are divided into groups of two heights, eg. for stable patterns, while swingable cam 12 is arranged only in track of longer butts A, that is more remotefrom the needle cylinder 1 than the upper cam ring 17. The remaining butts B, C, D, E are of the same height and serve for the selection of say micromesh. A pin 14' is screwed on swingable cam 14, said pin 14' limiting the downward movement ofthe swingabie cam 13 in the case where the latter is not controlled by the control device. All swingable cams 8,9,12 upto 16 are controlled according to a program by a control device, eg. by a control drum of a knitting feed ofthe machine by means of a lever system (notshown).
During the operation of the machine, the selection of needles 2 is performed in dependence on the butts set-out directly by swingable cams 8,9 and by means of needle jacks 3 byswingable cams 12 upto 16 and lowering ofthe needle 2 by means of cams 10 and 11 lowering ofthe needle jacks 3 by cam rings 17 and 18.
