Abstract

A cam system for circular double- cylinder knitting machines is provided for controlling sliders (3), swingable intermediate selector jacks (2) and selector jacks (1). When knitting only ground loops the upper ends (21) of the jacks (2) are swung out of their tricks so that they are controlled by a raising cam edge (91) to lift the jacks (2), the sliders (3) and the needles into the clearing position. When knitting both ground loops and tuck loops the selector jacks (1) are either lifted by a raising cam (131) or not according to a pattern. Lifting of the jacks (1) by the raising cam (131) results in the jacks (2) being lifted by a raising cam (10) so as to lift the sliders (3) already raised by a cam (9), and the needles into the clearing position. Otherwise the jacks (1) and (2) are not lifted and the sliders (3) lifted by cam (9) pass onto a tuck cam (4) into the tuck position. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Cam system for circular double-cylinder knitting machines The present invention relates to a cam system for circular double-cylinder knitting machines for manufacturing hosiery goods and similar, for the purpose of controlling sliders, intermediate selector jacks and selector jacks.
A circular double-cylinder knitting machine is known for manufacturing panties, in which tuck loop structures are knitted in the crutch, thus causing a better extensibility of the knit goods.
The cam system is modified in accordance with that requirement, by arranging tuck cams and raising cams for lifting into the clearing position along the path of the upper slider butts, in front of the clearing cams of the feeds, where tuck loops are knitted. Below the stationarily mounted raising cam for lifting into the clearing position, a radially displaceable tuck cam is arranged, which is followed by a stationary tuck cam, the latter thus being arranged behind the stationary raising cam for lifting into the clearing position.
This arrangement has a disadvantage consisting in covering, in the path of the upper slider butts, on the needle cylinder arch, a relatively large space. In that manner, the other cams are limited in their action, this having an unfavourable effect on the course or inclination of their operative edges, and thus on the knitting speed.
The purpose of the present invention consists in mitigating the above disadvantages.
According to the invention there is provided a cam system for circular double-cylinder knitting machines for manufacturing hosiery and similar goods, for controlling sliders, intermediate selector jacks and selector jacks, comprising in front of the clearing cam of at least one feed, in the path of the swung-out upper ends of the intermediate selector jacks a raising cam edge for lifting needles to their clearing position, and below said edge, in the path of butts of intermediate selector jacks, a raising cam, which is intended also for lifting needles to their clearing position.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing.
A known, not represented circular doublecylinder knitting machine for manufacturing hosiery goods is provided with a needle cylinder (not shown), in the longitudinal tricks of which are mounted selector jacks 1, intermediate selector jacks 2 and sliders 3 for holding needles (not represented). For the purpose of controlling the said elements, a cam system is arranged for knitting in two feeds. For the purpose of explaining the present invention, only a part of the said cam system is represented, i.e. the part in front of a clearing cam (not represented) of one feed.
In the path of upper butts 31 of sliders 3, a stationary tuck cam 4, a stitch cam 5 and further, cams 6 and 7 for reciprocatory knitting and a guiding ring 8 are arranged. In the path of lower butts 32 of sliders 3, a bolt cam 9 is arranged.
Furthermore, a raising cam edge 91 is formed on cam ring 90, said edge being intended for raising upper ends 21 of intermediate selector jacks 2.
Moreover, a recess 92 is formed there, which can be engaged by the ends 21 of intermediate selector jacks 2, the already mentioned cam edge 91 continuing said recess. In the path of butts 22 of the intermediate selector jacks, a raising cam 10 is arranged below the rising cam edge 91. Both the raising cam edge 91 and the raising cam 10 bring about a raising of the intermediate selector jacks 2 and, in continuation thereof, the needles into the clearing position. Below recess 92, a radially displaceable pressbutton 11 for pressing the bottom ends 23 of the intermediate selector jacks into the needle cylinder tricks is arranged.
For the purpose of controlling the selector jacks 1, an upper cam box ring 1 2 and a lower cam box ring 13 with a raising cam 131 are arranged there.
The cam arrangement as specified above operates as follows: Upon knitting a fabric, in which only ground loops are comprised, needle selection is performed by means of pressbutton 11, which is displaced towards the needle cylinder, and which presses in the lower ends 23 of the intermediate selector jacks 2. The upper ends 21 of intermediate selector jacks 2 are engaged with the raising cam edge 91 and lifted thereby, thus lifting themselves, behind raising cam 9, the sliders 3, and the needles into the clearing position. Raising cam 9 lifts the sliders 3 by their lower butts 32 in such manner, that their upper butts pass into the channel between tuck cam 4 and cam 7.
Upon knitting a fabric, in which ground loops and tuck loops are formed, the needle selection is performed from a patterning device (not shown), by means of the selector jacks 1. The pressbutton 11 is out of operation, while raising cam 9 is in operation. The selector jacks 1 , which are selected by the patterning device, are lifted by raising cam 131 of cam box ring 13. By their action, the attached intermediate selector jacks 2 are also lifted, and are further lifted by means of their butts 22 by raising cam 1 0. The sliders 3 are lifted by their lower butts 32 by raising cam 9 already in front of raising cam 1 0. Behind raising cam 9, the lifted intermediate selector jacks 2 act upon sliders 3 by lifting them, together with the needles, into the clearing position. The needles selected in that manner are used in the feed for forming ground loops.
The selector jacks 1, which are not selected by the patterning device, do not lift the intermediate selector jacks 2 on the raising cam 10. The appurtenant sliders 3 are then lifted by raising cam 9 into the channel between tuck cam 4 and cam 7, and are lifted, by intermediary of the upper butts 31, by means of tuck cam 4 into the tuck position. The needles selected in this manner are then employed in the feed for knitting tuck loops.
In the other feed, only ground loops are knitted.
When the machine is provided with three feeds, only two of them are provided with the cams as indicated above. The main advantage of the present invention consists in that, by such arrangement, the circumferential length, on which the cams for selecting the knitting of tuck loops, or ground loops, respectively, are located, is shortened.
