456,654. Knitting. HOLMES, H. H., and WILDT & CO., Ltd., Adelaide Works, Leicester. April 12, 1935, Nos. 11421 and 15301. Addition to 428,385. [Class 74 (ii)] A fabric knitted upon a circular machine has wales LB formed of knitted loops spaced apart by more than one wale having a lesser number of knitted loops, some or all of such wales C, SB, having floats or tuck stitches therein. A 1x1 rib fabric so formed has an apparent change of rib effect, without changing the lay out of the needles. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the wales LB formed by long-butted dial needles of a rib machine have knitted loops at each course, whereas the thread is floated at each alternate course at each cylinder needle and at the short-butted dial needles, giving an imitation of a 2 x1 rib effect. As shown in Fig. 3, long-butted cylinder needles again form knitted loops at each course, while at the short-butted cylinder needles the thread is held at alternate courses to form tuck stitches, and at the dial needles D the thread is floated at alternate courses. By arranging the short and long-butted needles, various rib effects can be imitated. Specifications 267,876, [Class 74 (ii)], 437,992, and 446,784 are referred to.
