572,908. Knitting. WILDT, E., HOLMES, H. H., WIDDOWSON, A. H., and WILDT & CO., Ltd. Sept. 6, 1943, No. 14578. [Class 74 (ii)] Interlock fabric is patterned bytransferred needle or sinker loop effects and by embroidery plating. Needles loops ps<1> of one web may be transferred to the needles forming the directly opposite wales rw' of the other web. Plain needle loops ps<1> of one web can be transferred to and interknitted with rib wales of the other web, or rib needle loops rs of one web can be transferred to and interknitted with the plain wales pw of the other web. Sinker loops of one web may be transferred to and knitted with adjacent needle loops in the same or the other web. The embroidery plating ws<1> may be as described in Specifications 455,801 and 570,930, and the embroidery and the transferred loop effects may be combined as described in Specification 556,084. The fabric may be made on a cylinder-and-dial machine in which the needles in each bed are divided into two sets, the alternate needles having knitting butts 5a at one level 6a or at one radial position, and the intermediate needles having knitting butts 5b, 6b at a different level or radial position. Each of the needles 5, 6 in each bed is provided with a loop' engaging catch 5c and with a loop expanding formation 5d so that upon appropriate endwise movement of the needles 5, the loop to be transferred is held so that it can be entered by the needle 6 to which it is to be transferred. Selecting means, e.g., a pattern drum 10 may be provided for raising or projecting the cylinder or dial needles so that they may be engaged by a transfer cam and moved to transfer position. The fabric may also be made upon a machine of the straight or flat type. Specification 473,181 also is referred to. Specifications 520,900, 535,162 and 549,937 are referred to in the Provisional Specification.
