Abstract

499,866. Knitting-machines. DAVIS & SONS, Ltd., S., and WIGLEY, A. June 25, 1937, No. 17686. [Class 74 (ii)] A circular machine having two needle beds arranged at an angle to one another is provided with independently movable verge forming elements in one or each needle bed. The invention is described in connection with a cylinder- and-dial machine, Each verge forming element 9 consists of a blade like member 10 with a channel shaped portion 11 at one end and an operating butt 12 at the other end. The element 9 is mounted in the same trick as the corresponding needle 4, and is actuated by cams 18, 20 so disposed to the stitch cam 23 that the elements 9 are advanced as the needles 4 are retracted. The needles 4 may function as loop transferring members, and are provided with laterally projecting loop retaining catches 33 and 307 recesses to receive the hooks of the corresponding cylinder needles. In a multiple feeder machine the dial needle cams may be provided at one feeder only, so that only the cylinder needles knit at the remaining feeders.
