To reduce the amount by which it is necessary to shog the sinker cam plate during reciprocatory knitting at a single feeder on a multifeed machine where one needle cam is provided with forward and reverse stitch cam faces to enable it to provide one face for continuous rotary knitting at one feeder and the reverse face for reverse reciprocatory knitting at the adjacent feeder when being used singly for reciprocatory knitting, a movable sinker cam 8 is provided adjacent the sinker knocking over cam 12 which is capable of projection and retraction to withdraw the sinkers so that the needles draw their loops over the sinker ledges and not over the sinker nibs when knitting in that direction of reciprocatory knitting.
