To render feeds II and III of a circular machine temporarily inactive when the machine is in operation, a cam 1 at feed II is inserted and raises the needles so high that they miss the leading points 2 of stitch cams 4 at feeds II and III and travel at a high inactive level until they meet the leading point of an upwardly extended stitch cam 3 at feed IV and knit at that feed and at feed I.
