An eight feeder circular knitting-machine has a fixed stitch cam 1 ... 8 at each knitting- station and a movable clearing cam 11 . . . 18. In addition, a movable tucking cam 32, 34, 36, 38 is provided at each alternate feeding station to act on the butts of jacks operating on the needles, the tucking cams being disposed at different levels at each station and acting on butts of different lengths. A movable make-up cam 22 is disposed to act on the jacks prior to the needles passing through the first feeding station to select the needles in a 1 x 1 relationship and to enable welt transfer instruments mounted in a dial to be operated to take and hold loops and to retransfer them back to the needles on completion of the welt.
