714,282. Knitting. HEMPHILL CO. Jan. 30, 1952 [Feb. 27, 1951], No. 2519/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 74 (2) In knitting a patterned article, for example, a sock having diamond patterns with overchecking, by reciprocatory knitting on a circular machine, the body yarn is fed at one side of the machine to all the needles forming a patterned area at one side of the article except the needle or needles receiving the overchecking yarn, which needles receive this yarn at the other side of the machine during the same stroke. Upon reversal of the stroke of the machine the overchecking yarn is again fed to the needle or.needles followed by the feeding of the body yarn. In the wale or wales containing the overchecking yarn in each course, the body yarn is floated. The patterned area at the other side of the article is knitted simultaneously in a similar fashion but in the reverse order of feeding the overchecking and body yarns. In the case of a diamond patterned sock, the sets of diamond patterns are knitted course by course at the same time. Specifications 519,867 and 713,030 are referred to.
