713,724. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. Oct. 23, 1952, No, 26629/52. Class 74(2) The invention relates to a method of transferring loops from one set of needles to another. As described in connection with a cylinder-and-dial machine, in transferring dial needle loops to cylinder needles, each cylinder needle is first raised so that its hook is in the same plane as the shank of the corresponding dial needle. Fig. 1. The two needles are then brought, into contact and the dial needle is projected so that the cylinder needle slides along and in contact with the dial needle until the cylinder needle engages a recess 4 in the dial needle, Fig. 3. This recess 5 is so shaped that a loop 5 on the dial needle extends across and without engaging in it when the needle is projected. The cylinder needle is then raised and passed through the loop extending across the recess Fig. 4. To enable the needles to be brought into contact the dial is eccentrically mounted with respect to the cylinder as is described in Specification 479,324.
