The yarn severing and clamping mechanism described in Specification 747,731 is so positioned and operated that the length of the loose end of splicing yarn left extending from the fabric after the mechanism has severed the splicing yarn, is substantially equal in length to the loose end of yarn in advance of the first knitted loop of the yarn in a course.
