Abstract

737,829. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. Sept. 3, 1953 [Oct. 31, 1952], No. 24430/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 74 (2). A method of transferring from 2 x 2 or more rib fabric to plain fabric on a cylinder-and-dial machine comprises transferring the loop of one dial needle of a rib group to the corresponding cylinder needle on the passage of the group past a given position and transferring the loop of another dial needle of the group on a subsequent passage of the group past the given position. By arranging the butts of the needles in a predetermined order of long, medium and short, one loop of the rib wales of each group of a 2 X 2 rib fabric is transferred during one course of knitting and the other loop is transferred during the following course. Alternatively one loop of one group may be transferred on one passage of the group past a given position, all of the loops of the remaining groups being transferred as they pass the given position, and the other loop of the initial group being transferred as the group again passes the given position.
